THE MAY 2009 RPGTONIGHT - CARTOGRAPHERS GUILD CONTEST WINNERS!

This year RPGtonight again sponsored the May Mapping challenge at the Cartographers guild, www.cartographersguild.com.

The 2009 contest was titled "Cut to the Chase!" and involved creating tabletop or VTT battle maps that could be used as the scene of a challenging moving battle and chase. Many fine maps were entered, including several very large tiled versions. The Winners and their entries were:

First Prize: Rob Hearn (AKA Mysticmagellen) - Escape from Winter Mountain - featuring, among other things, a battle with a mad evil wizard and his minions while riding snow sleds down a luge-like escape route.

Second Prize: Michael Tumey (AKA Gameprinter) - Tanaka's Challenge - your challenge is basically to escape from his castle with your life!

Third Prize: Emmanuel Sobrevilla (AKA Drahyden) - A Walk on Las Nubes - Better have a working fly spell, or else be able to jump really far.

These maps have all been placed in the onsite map collection along with explanations of features and background plots that can used to lead up to the chase. The onsite map collection can only be accessed via the GM's game screen, after a gameroom has been created. Click on the load button, top row, then on the next screen click the button (third from the top) for selecting maps from onsite.

Every month the Cartographers guild holds a mapmaking contest among its members based on a different theme. Last year RPGtonight became the first outside site to sponsor a monthly contest with prizes. The contest itself is run at the Cartographers guild website where members vote on their favorite maps to determine the winner. See the Cartographers guild website for details about their current contest.
